Vistry Partnerships entered into a joint venture with Citizen New Homes Limited to deliver 600 homes on the former Lea Castle Hospital site in Kidderminster. Located in Lea Castle, close to the villages of Cookley and Wolverley, the former hospital was previously used as a military camp during World War Two and most recently, it has been used as a care home. The NHS closed Lea Castle Hospital in 2008 and the site had been redundant until its re-development began in 2020.
The new development will provide a range of new homes and green infrastructure provision and enhancements, including:
Retention of existing woodland and hedgerows with additional native planting to provide buffering around new development
Creation of an area of acid grassland adjacent to Axborough Wood
Provision of allotments or community orchard
Provision of pedestrian and cycle links both within and off the site to connect to local facilities
In 2024 it was reported that a rare Blue-tailed Damselfly had made its home on the site.
