This former industrial site is designed around a central sunken garden, which exemplifies multifunctionality as a green, shared community space, particularly for residents with below-standard sized private gardens. The design supports the capture rainfall at source, cleaning surface water runoff and storing it within the site boundary to provide new and additional habitat for a greater diversity of flora and fauna. The proposals also offer natural play space and provide enhanced management of the microclimate.
